(eap) “Aviktas” celebrates its opening today at Pleasure Beach Resort in the English coastal town of Blackpool, which is celebrating its 130th anniversary this year. The Intamin Gyro Swing launches its riders 138 feet (42 metres) into the air while reaching top speeds of 60 mph (97 kph). The new thrill attraction has been built on the site of the former “Bowl-A-Drome” arcade and amusement venue.

“Pleasure Beach has always had a reputation for going big and pushing boundaries – Aviktas is no exception. Its sheer size and presence speaks for itself, there is simply nothing like it in the UK. We wanted to build something that sets us apart from anywhere else and gives our guests a genuine must-visit reason to come to the park. This project is another reminder of our commitment to making Pleasure Beach one of the world’s greatest theme parks,” says Amanda Thompson OBE, CEO of Pleasure Beach Resort.

With an investment of GBP 8.72 million (over EUR 10 million), Aviktas represents the largest single investment since the opening of the multi-launch coaster “ICON” eight years ago. The new attraction is intended to mark the next chapter in Pleasure Beach’s ongoing development strategy. In recent years, the park has already redesigned classic attractions such as the drop tower “Launch Pad” and the water dark ride “Valhalla”. ■
