Norwegian Aqua Gets World’s First Aqua Slidecoaster

Norwegian Aqua Gets World’s First Aqua Slidecoaster

(eap) Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) announces “Norwegian Aqua”, a new ship in its “Prima” class of ocean liners, which will be the first cruise ship in the extended Prima Plus class and is scheduled to depart on its maiden voyage in April 2025. As a new addition to the entertainment and attraction line-up, the ship, which like the “Norwegian Prima” and “Norwegian Viva” is being built at the Italian Fincantieri shipyard, will feature the world’s first “Aqua Slidecoaster”. The attraction is an innovative combination of roller coaster and water slide developed by German manufacturer Wiegand.Waterrides, which has a magnetic drive and two slide tracks. On the new NCL ship, the ride will comprise three storeys and perform thrilling twists and turns around the ship’s funnel.

The Norwegian Aqua, which will have travel destinations in the Caribbean and is already available for bookings, will be 322 metres long. The capacity will be 3,571 guests at double occupancy. The ship will thus be around ten per cent larger than its sister ships. For the first time on board an NCL ship, there will be luxurious three-bedroom duplex suites in The Haven by Norwegian® (an exclusive ship-within-a-ship complex that is only accessible with a key card). These four two-storey suites feature a separate living and eating area, three bathrooms, an expansive balcony and three bedrooms. In addition, solo inside cabins, solo ocean view cabins and solo balcony cabins for solo travelers will also be available at more attractive rates than conventional inside, outside or balcony cabins.

Another new feature announced is the “Glow Court”, a digital sports complex with an interactive LED floor that will offer a variety of multimedia activities for guests during the day and transforms into a nightclub in the evening hours. In addition, Norwegian Aqua will get some of the most popular attractions known from her sister ships, including “The Drop”, a ten-storey free-fall slide, and “The Stadium”, a now expandable play area with free activities. More new and additional features on board Norwegian Aqua will be unveiled next year. ■
