Plopsa Announces Closure of Plopsa Station Antwerp
(eap) Belgian theme park operator Plopsa has announced that its indoor theme park Plopsa Station Antwerp will permanently close its doors on January 4, 2026. The company had taken over the location – situated directly inside Antwerp Central Station – in 2019. Previously, the indoor park had operated for only two years under the name Comics Station Antwerp (see EAP 4/2017) and had been struggling with severe financial difficulties.
Following the acquisition, Plopsa invested more than six million euros in a comprehensive relaunch to breathe new life into the site. In October 2021, Plopsa Station Antwerp reopened – in addition to the originally featured Belgian comic characters such as “Lucky Luke” and “The Smurfs”, popular Studio100 characters including “Bumba”, “Vicky the Viking”, and “Maya the Bee” also moved into the indoor park. Despite the commitment of its employees and the investments made, the company stated that it had not succeeded in achieving the desired visitor satisfaction and financial stability. Plopsa emphasized that appropriate solutions would be sought for the affected employees, aiming to offer them positions within other theme parks of the group.
Despite the imminent closure, Plopsa expressed gratitude for the many memorable years at the Antwerp site. The group highlighted the numerous shared experiences of guests and staff and reaffirmed its continued commitment to investing in its theme parks at home and abroad, with the goal of offering families unique and high-quality leisure experiences. ■
