PortAventura to Modernize Looping Coaster “Dragon Khan”
(eap) The Spanish theme park resort PortAventura World has announced plans to comprehensively modernize its looping coaster “Dragon Khan” – which has given several million rides since its debut in 1995 – during the upcoming winter closure (starting January 7, 2026). With its red track, blue supports, and inversion-filled layout, the attraction ranks among the park visitors’ favorites.
Some sections of the track are in need of renewal, as Sergio Fraile, Technical Director at PortAventura, explained: “We will be partially replacing the track, including a complete renewal of both the vertical loop and the cobra roll. This is a complex operation for which we are working closely with the manufacturer B&M. The goal is to reliably extend the coaster’s service life.”

Since the opening of PortAventura, Dragon Khan has been part of the resort’s diverse offering — the leisure destination is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year. During the recent IAAPA Expo Europe in Barcelona, numerous industry professionals took the opportunity to visit the resort, located about 1.5 hours south of Barcelona. New experiences at PortAventura include, among others, the technologically advanced mixed reality application featured on the mine train coaster “El Diablo Neo” (as reported in our EAP News of May 27, 2025). ■
