Portugal: New Dinoparque Lourinhã Opens Today

Today, the Portuguese city of Lourinhã sees the opening of the new Dinoparque Lourinhã (cf. EAP, 6/17) – an approx. ten hectare large dinosaur exhibition park, comprising some 2.5 kilometers of walkway through the primeval landscape of our planet, which was home to giant dinosaurs.

More than 120 life-sized dinosaur models, which were manufactured by Germany’s Wolter Design company based on recent scientific data, represent their species in the different geological time period sections on display. As a particularity, the new dino park in Lourinhã also showcases models based on local fossil findings, including the Lourinhasaurus. At the park’s laboratory, visitors can learn more about the work of “fossil preparation”. The new visitor destination was developed in cooperation with Germany’s Dinosaurier-Park Münchehagen; also, it is working closely together with Museu da Lourinhã, where a comprehensive selection of fossil founds forms the major part of the exhibition.
