Project Launch for German Heljensbad Heiligenhaus Modernisation

(eap) The Heljensbad in the North Rhine-Westphalia town of Heiligenhaus is set to undergo extensive modernisation. The town, which has a population of nearly 28,000 inhabitants, is located between the major cities of Düsseldorf, Essen and Wuppertal. Demolition of the ageing indoor and outdoor swimming pool complex is scheduled to begin at the end of September, following the conclusion of the outdoor pool season. Plans call for the construction of a new, accessible, and sustainable multi-purpose pool facility.

With the signing of the contract between Stadtwerke Heiligenhaus and the general contractor Depenbrock, the project is entering the implementation phase. With the official signing of the contract between the Stadtwerke Heiligenhaus municipal utilities and total contractor Depenbrock, implementation of the major project, worth around 51 million euros, has now begun. The plan is to create a modern year-round pool facility that is intended to offer more than a traditional swimming pool. The project is being supported by the EU with around 30 million euros as part of the integrated urban development concept (ISEK).

The Düsseldorf-based POS4 Architekten Generalplaner GmbH is responsible for the architectural design and planning of the project. Plans include a sports pool with five lanes, a separate teaching pool, a diving area, a brine pool, an outdoor pool with 50-metre lanes, a spray park for children, as well as multifunctional lounge areas and flexibly usable community spaces. In addition to the year-round pool facility, the site will also include offers for skittles, shooting sports and e-sports. Completion of the new pool facility is scheduled for 2028.
