Royal Caribbean Brings “The SpongeBob Musical” to Hero of the Seas

(eap) Royal Caribbean is bringing a production inspired by the Tony Award-winning Broadway musical “The SpongeBob Musical” to sea for the first time. Based on the Nickelodeon animated series “SpongeBob SquarePants”, the show will be staged aboard “Hero of the Seas” when the fourth Icon Class ship sets sail from Miami for the first time in August 2027. The production will bring the colourful world of Bikini Bottom to life in the “Royal Theater”.

Featuring unexpected twists, well-known songs and popular characters from the series, the musical is designed to entertain the whole family. At the heart of the story is a race against time, as SpongeBob and his friends must save Bikini Bottom from total destruction. Along the way, the story conveys the message that heroes can sometimes be found in the most unlikely places…

“At Royal Caribbean, we’re focused on creating incredible experiences that bring families of all ages together in meaningful, memorable ways,” said Christi Coachman, Vice President of Entertainment at Royal Caribbean. “Our entertainment lineup on Hero of the Seas is designed with something for everyone. ‘The SpongeBob Musical’ delivers on that by bringing generations together through a story families know and love, while showcasing the creativity, cutting-edge technology and world-class production that can only be experienced on a Royal Caribbean vacation.”

In addition to the musical production, guests aboard the new cruise ship can look forward to a wide range of further experiences. These include “Category 6”, the “largest waterpark at sea”, nine pools including the new “Coconut Cove” pool, as well as “Crown’s Edge”, a combination of skywalk and zip line suspended around 47 metres above the ocean (see EAP News of 1 Apr 2026). ■
