Saxony’s Trixi-Bad to Undergo 24-Million-Euro-Modernization

The aging Trixi-Bad, part of a leisure and vacation resort in Saxony, is set to undergo extensive renovations over the next two years.

(eap) After 28 years of operation and several partial energy-related refurbishments, the Trixi-Bad, located in Großschönau in the German district of Görlitz (Saxony), is set to undergo a comprehensive modernization. Since February 23, the leisure and adventure pool – which welcomes around 150,000 guests annually – has been closed for construction works. The sauna area and the former brine pool, which has temporarily been converted into a regular pool, remain open. The planned modernization measures aim to bring the facility technically, functionally and visually up to date. The work will be carried out in two construction phases. The overall project is made possible through funding from the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action, amounting to approximately 15.1 million euro. The total investment for the modernization is estimated at just under 24 million euro.

The first phase includes the renewal and restructuring of the entrance area, the family-friendly redesign of changing rooms and lockers, as well as the expansion of the pool restaurant. In addition, the indoor pool hall will undergo a complete refurbishment, including new acoustic and lighting concepts, while the pool lighting will also be replaced. Plans further include the modernization of the children’s pool and the construction of a new tube slide (by Aquarena). The existing gallery level will be transformed into a relaxation area.

Once these works have been completed – scheduled for the end of 2026 – the second construction phase will follow. This phase will include, among other measures, the expansion of the family offering through the addition of a spray park. If all proceeds according to plan, the pool is expected to reopen in 2027. At the same time, the sauna area will be upgraded with several new sauna experiences. In addition, the existing wellness area will be complemented by a 100-square-meter dry play area for children aged three to twelve. The second phase of construction is expected to last until mid-2028.

The building contractor is the “Allwetterbad Großschönau” municipal association, which launched the modernization project in collaboration with TRIXI-Bad GmbH, the company responsible for operating the pool. The leisure pool facility forms part of the Trixi Park leisure and holiday resort, which combines various accommodation options with leisure and bathing facilities. ■
