SeaWorld Orlando Opens “Expedition Odyssey”
(eap) A new attraction went into operation at SeaWorld Orlando: “Expedition Odyssey”, the flight adventure for families announced last fall, which was created in the “Wild Arctic” themed area of the park and offers visitors a simulated flight through the Arctic.
Designed as a multi-stage experience, the attraction combines a journey through Arctic landscapes with close-up encounters with real animals. At its core is a multi-level flying theater system – the “Airific” model from Mack Rides – featuring a back-to-back configuration, allowing 30 guests to enjoy the flight experience at the same time while the gondolas on the reverse side are simultaneously loaded and unloaded. Passengers are taken on a smooth-gliding motion experience, enhanced by precise directional and tilting movements that simulate flying or diving through icy polar environments. Live-action footage showcases majestic glaciers, vast tundras, and deep-sea realms, accompanied by sensory effects such as wind, mist, and scent.
Following the flight – which is accessible to guests with a minimum height of one meter – visitors transition into a real-world encounter zone featuring live animals including beluga whales and walruses. This post-show element is designed to create a seamless bridge between digital simulation and physical reality. “With Expedition Odyssey, we are delivering an experience that is truly unmatched – one that combines breathtaking adventure with powerful, real-world encounters,” said Jon Peterson, Park President of SeaWorld Orlando. “This attraction embodies SeaWorld’s ongoing commitment to innovation, conservation, and creating awe-inspiring moments that stay with our guests long after they leave.”
According to SeaWorld, Expedition Odyssey is the world’s first attraction of its kind to offer a fully immersive experience that includes live animal interaction. ■
