(eap) More than two years ago, comprehensive modernization measures worth 250 million US dollars were announced for the Shedd Aquarium in Chicago, Illinois, to be implemented by 2027. A contract has now been signed for the delivery of a new 4D attraction next year, which will take guests on a multisensory journey through the underwater world from spring 2026. Once again, the aquarium is collaborating on this project with US provider SimEx-Iwerks, with whom it has a long-standing partnership. State-of-the-art technologies, impressive visual effects, and multisensory elements will make the new experience something special and immerse guests in the world of the oceans.

In the main hall, projections on side walls, floor lights, and seats with wind, fog, and scent effects will provide an intense experience.

“Guests to Shedd Aquarium have shown that they crave an experience that educates by engaging their senses,” said Pat Fraser, Vice President of Guest Relations at Shedd Aquarium. “Our new theater will provide even more of those sensory moments, while mirroring improvements we have made across our building to make a visit to the aquarium truly dynamic and unforgettable.” ■
