Spain: Puy du Fou España Announces New Investments

In its first season, the Puy du Fou España theme park, which opened its doors in Toledo in March this year and initially delighted visitors with four spectacular daytime experiences, the “El Sueño de Toledo” evening show and four themed villages (two more daytime spectaculars, “El Vagar de los Siglos” and “El Pregón de la Puebla”, were added during the season), welcomed a total of over 600,000 guests. A great success for the new destination, which is the first international offshoot of the French Puy du Fou park and takes up its concept of spectacular, history-based shows and experiences (c.f. our story in EAP 3/2021).

For the 2022 season, which kicks-off on March 19 and is scheduled to last until January 8, 2023, including the Christmas season, the park has announced a total investment of seven million euros to make the journey through Spain’s history even more exciting with numerous novelties and to reach the 750,000 visitor mark. The evening show “El Sueño de Toledo” will receive a larger grandstand for up to 6,000 guests to meet the high demand for admission tickets for the performance – as well as the number of play dates will be increased to 101 dates for the next season. Similarly, investments will be made in scenery and set changes, new choreography and special effects for the daytime shows that exist in the program. In addition, even more actors, riders, dancers and acrobats will add to the show program next year.

Part of the investment will go into new enclosure areas for the animals and further landscaping of the park site, which covers a total of 30 hectares. The construction of additional historical craft workshops is also planned, for which practical workshops will also be bookable from the coming season, so that school classes and all interested parties can learn old crafts such as forging a sword themselves. During the Christmas season next year, there will be a special program with, among other things, two specially designed shows that link the Christian feast with historical events. (eap)
