Tivoli Celebrates Anniversary with Opening of “Hikari”
Tivoli Gardens’ new “Hikari” themed area is designed as a Japanese streetscape “in Tivoli style”, combining attractions, food and beverage outlets, shops and colourful theming.

(eap) Tomorrow marks the day: Denmark’s historic amusement park Tivoli Gardens in Copenhagen will celebrate its 183rd anniversary and, to mark the occasion, open its new themed area “Hikari”. The project was recently presented as the largest investment to date – amounting to a nine-figure sum in Danish kroner – in the leisure park founded in 1843 (cf. EAP News of 18 June 2026).
Hikari (Japanese for “light”) takes the form of a Japanese streetscape “in Tivoli style”, designed to create an authentic atmosphere for visitors and combining food and beverage outlets, shops and three attractions. The existing “Dæmonen” roller coaster has been integrated into the area and given a matching “Maneki-neko” theme, inspired by the Japanese lucky cat figure. In addition, a new funhouse in cooperation with Gosetto and a “Zero Gravity” ride from SBF-Visa have been added to the area.

“We have been very much looking forward to Tivoli’s anniversary, when this time we can give our guests a birthday present that we have been working on for five years. Finally, we can open Hikari – a new amusement universe featuring, among other things, two brand-new rides. For Hikari, we have drawn inspiration from Japan and created our own universe of rides, architecture, gardens, art and culinary experiences that are unique in their own right. Opening on our anniversary is not only a new chapter in our history, but also underlines our ambition to continue developing Tivoli Gardens as one of the world’s most attractive destinations for both national and international visitors,” says Susanne Mørch Koch, CEO of Tivoli Gardens.
For tomorrow’s opening of Hikari and the celebration of Tivoli’s 183rd anniversary, guests can look forward to a varied entertainment programme starting at noon, including various musical performances and a parade, followed by a grand fireworks display in the evening.
