UK: Thorpe Park Given “Green Light” for “Project Exodus” Roller Coaster Novelty

A few days ago, Thorpe Park, located west of London in Chertsey (county of Surrey), received news about the approval of the building application for its “Project Exodus” roller coaster novelty by the responsible Runnymede Borough Council, so that the construction of the looping coaster can now be started. This is not only the first new roller coaster to launch in the park since the opening of the “Swarm” wing coaster in 2012 (by B&M) – with a maximum track height of 72 meters, Project Exodus is also to be the “highest roller coaster in the UK” at the time of its planned opening in 2024.

While details of the future new ride experience are not being communicated yet, there are at least increasing indications that Exodus will be a ride supplied by German manufacturer Mack Rides. It is now being built in the former “Old Town” area of the park and will, among other things, feature an F&B outlet in its immediate vicinity. With the investment in the new roller coaster, the park and its operator, Merlin Entertainments, aim to add a spectacular attraction to the existing visitor offer, with the goal of significantly pushing the economic recovery of the leisure resort after the past years shaped by the pandemic.
