USA: Carowinds Announces Waterpark Expansion

Carowinds amusement park, located in the US state of North Carolina, recently unveiled its plans for the expansion of its Boomerany Bay waterpark. The expanded facility is scheduled to open in 2016 and will feature a combination of thrills, relaxation and family fun.

Carolina Harbor will offer its visitors many of the park’s current waterpark attractions but also a variety of new ones, delivered by Neuman Group (pools), Whitewater West (slides and play structures) and Water Technology Inc. (wave making device). Additionally, there will be amenities like a two-acre family area, a restaurant, a bar and sand volleyball courts. “We listened to our guests and have made a promise to bring them more family-friendly attractions. And we’re happy to be delivering on our promise with the addition of Carolina Harbor – a guaranteed ultimate waterpark experience. Carowinds is growing by leaps and bounds and continues to put the park on the map as the premier entertainment destination of the Carolinas,” Mike Fehnel, Carowinds’ vice president and general manager, says.

The addition of the waterpark is the latest phase in a $ 50 million plus multi-year expansion at Carowinds, an effort kicked off by the opening of the B&M giga coaster “Fury 325” in spring this year. The park, which belongs to Cedar Fair Entertainment Company (cf. EAP News from August 7, 2015), announced it will publish additional plans for the 2016 season later in the fall. EAP will inform you about further attractions at Carowinds. (eap)
