After the grand opening of the highly anticipated “Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge“ theme area, including the first of its two main attractions “Millenium Falcon: Smugglers Run“, on August, 29th at Disney’s Hollywood Studios (Orlando/Florida) (cf. EAP news of 29 Aug 2019), the new Star Wars land sees its completion today. “Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance“ is the area’s second flagship attraction, a media-based, trackless dark ride, which immerses visitors into the Star Wars universe to be part of the “resistance formation“ against the so-called “First Order“. The motion-based vehicles can accommodate up to eight persons with a minimum body height of 102 centimeters at the same time.
Walt Disney Imagineering and production company Lucasfilm worked together in close cooperation, to create a borderless experience between the queue, preshow and ride sections. In addition, the new attraction is equipped with numerous special effects, audio-animatronics and iconic film set props. Thanks to the state-of-the-art simulator technology, the ride developers were able to create an effect of falling out of space and crash land on the planet of Batuu. According to the park, “Rise of the Resistance“ is one of the biggest and longest rides Disney has ever created. On January 17th, 2020 the same ride will debut at the Disneyland Park in Anaheim/California. (eap)
