USA: SeaWorld San Diego Announces Coaster Novelty for 2019

California’s SeaWorld San Diego theme park has recently announced to open a new ride attraction in summer 2019: “Tidal Twisters” will be the first installation of a “Skywarp Horizon” coaster from US manufacturer Skyline Attractions (distributed by Ride Entertainment) featuring a horizontal track layout. Reaching a velocity of up to 48 km/h (30 mph), the two trains will twist and bank along the figure eight-shaped track, creating the passenger’s feeling of “riding the tide”. Rushing through the center of the attraction where the track crosses itself, riders experience a near-miss effect and a Zero-G roll. Up to 16 passengers – with a minimum body height of 1.2 meters (48 inches) – can board on each of the two trains. The attraction will be located adjacent to the aquarium in the northwestern corner of the park.

“There is no other coaster experience in the world like Tidal Twister. The two trains duel one another and guests will see the excitement on the faces of other riders. […] The tight turns, the inversion and the airtime hill will leave our guests wondering which way is up,” commented Marilyn Hannes, Park President of SeaWorld San Diego.

The very first installation of a Skywarp went into operation this year at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom, dubbed “Harley Quinn Crazy Coaster” (cf. EAP news from Sept 1st, 2017) – that installation features a vertical moebius loop. (eap)
