USA: Wooden Coaster Colossus at SixFlags Magic Mountain Goes Up in Flames

Misfortune and luck hit at the same time at California’s SixFlags Magic Mountain recently: The park’s 36-year-old double tracked wooden roller coaster “Colossus”, which had been closed four weeks ago for extensive renovations, suddenly burst into flames during the renovation works on Monday – a nightmare for each and every operator and wooden coaster enthusiast! Actually the plan was to reopen the coaster as hybrid ride “Twisted Colossus” for the 2015 season next spring. Luckily, the park was closed on Monday, so no injuries were reported. Parts of the structure even collapsed. Investigations to find out the cause of the fire have been initiated by the police immediately.
