Universal Epic Universe Celebrates Grand Opening
(eap) With today’s opening of Universal Epic Universe, Universal Orlando Resort in Florida adds a fourth theme park to its portfolio. The new park is considered one of the most extensive expansions in the resort’s history and complements the existing offerings, which already includes Universal Studios Florida, Islands of Adventure, the Volcano Bay water park as well as various hotels and CityWalk. “Universal Epic Universe is a huge game changer, because we’re adding ‘epic’ – this epic experience – to everything that we already offer in Orlando,” explained Karen Irwin, President and COO of Universal Orlando Resort, at the opening.

The new theme park is divided into five adventure worlds: “The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Ministry of Magic”, “Super Nintendo World”, “How to Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk”, “Dark Universe” and “Celestial Park”. The latter forms the heart of the park with extensive gardens, water features, and walkways, and is intended to give real meaning to the term “park” in the theme park. Three attractions – including the Dual Launch Coaster “Stardust Racers” – as well as dining and shopping facilities complete the area, from which visitors can access the other adventure worlds via themed “portals”.

Other main attractions include the dark ride “Monsters Unchained: The Frankenstein Experiment”, the spinning coaster “Curse of the Werewolf”, the interactive Mario Kart attraction “Bowser’s Challenge”, the family coaster “Mine-Cart Madness”, and the new “Harry Potter” adventure “The Battle at the Ministry”. The resort has also expanded its range of accommodation with three new hotels: The Universal Helios Grand Hotel, which is directly integrated into the theme park as well as the Stella Nova and Terra Luna hotels, which together offer a further 1,500 rooms.

“An eight-year journey that involves the most creative people in the entire world lies behind us. The greatest amount of innovation, the most technologically advanced theme park we’ve ever created and a spectacular addition to our Universal Orlando Resort. It really changes everything for us: it changes our position in the market place, it changes how people experience a theme park, how they experience live entertainment, how they see dragons, Mario, Harry Potter and Universal monsters. It really changes everything”, said Mark Woodbury, Chairman und CEO of Universal Destinations & Experiences.
