Sweden: Presentation of Liseberg Applause Award 2020 Postponed Again

The “Applause Award”, initiated in 1980 by Liseberg and traditionally presented by the park every two years during the IAAPA Expo in Orlando, was not awarded last year due to the operational restrictions caused by the pandemic and the cancellation of the trade fair (cf. EAP news of 21 Sept 2020). The 2020 Applause Award is now not to be presented this year either, but back in the regular cycle again in 2022. The main reason for this decision is that the theme and amusement parks competing for the Applause Award are still subject to different limitations in their operating schedules, so that a fair awarding of prizes is not possible. The award is given to leisure facilities for innovative approaches and solutions in the areas of management, operations and creativity.

“It is unfortunate that we will have to skip a complete award cycle, but given the nature of the award, we need to make sure that the finalists are given an even playing field. However, we look forward to presenting the award to one of three world-class finalists in November 2022,” says Andreas Veilstrup Andersen, CEO and President at Liseberg. (eap)
