Germany: Tierpark Berlin Reveals Plans for New Himalaya Themed Area

As of spring 2022, visitors to Tierpark Berlin will be able to discover an all-new Himalaya theme area, which is currently under development in cooperation with the landscaping architects of Hager Partner AG and the landscaping and gardening specialists of Krahnstöver & Wolf. The new realm will be home to red pandas, tufted deers, francois langurs, Himalayan blue sheeps and snow leopards, amongst other species.

“Tierpark Berlin is an institution and loved by the young and the young-at-heart alike. The concept of themed lands, which was initiated by Dr. Knieriem and his team, impresses with great biodiversity and offers families an interesting opportunity for recreation. For this reason we particularly support modernization projects such as the construction of the Himalaya mountain landscape,“ explains Dr. Matthias Kollatz (photo left), Berlin’s Financial Affairs Senator and adds: “The redesign based on geographical zones including typical vegetation and the replication of authentic landscapes as well as the presentation of specific species are meaningful and contemporary. Thanks to this, activities and knowledge transfer will be increase significantly. In the truest sense of the word, a new highlight is being created here.“

“After the opening of the Rainforest House last summer, I am pleased that our Finance Senator visits us again to personally gain an impression of the construction progress of this next major project and to see that the financial resources of the Senate Department are in best hands here,“ comments Zoo Director Dr. Andreas Knieriem (photo right).

Throughout the new 60,000 square meter-large area, visitors will also be able to find education stations, which will show the characteristics of the highest mountains on earth and how animals adapt to this special habitat. (eap)
