USA: “The Flyer – San Francisco“ to Open This Summer

During IAAPA Expo 2016, Canada-based Triotech company presented its newly developed flying theater concept to industry professionals: “The Flyer”. In contrast to existing attractions of this type, The Flyer’s motion simulation is coordinated in line with the individual seats and it is compatible with 3D film content, which – along with live footage images – can also be shown in form of CGI movies (cf. EAP, 1/17). The first project announced for this new product type was “The Flyer – San Francisco”, which is being developed in cooperation with W.A. Alter, Inc. and the opening of which was now officially announced for summer this year.

The flying theater will be located at Pier 39 in the Fisherman’s Wharf city district. Following a pre-show experience, which includes the opportunity to take a souvenir photo, guests will take their individually controlled motion seats. The floors below will slip away and riders will be suspended in front of the 102 square meter (1,100 square foot) large, curved Spitz screen to immerse into a six-minute 3D flight through some of San Francisco’s iconic landmarks and its surroundings, also catching a glimpse of some of the Bay Area’s most known performers and personalities.

The Fly Studio production company has created the 3D movie for the attraction, Christie digital projectors will ensure a high-resolution image quality. Furthermore, in-seat special effects such as vibrations and wind will create a fully immersive experience. “The Flyer – San Francisco” will feature a total of 28 seats. (eap)
