(eap) Germany’s Ketteler Hof in Haltern am See in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia focuses on physical activity, hands-on experiences and creative play. The family-run adventure park is particular popular with families with children. Alongside extensive outdoor grounds with various play areas, it features an integrated indoor park that offers an attractive alternative in poor weather conditions and during the colder months. The park has already started work on its next major construction project for the upcoming year.
“KEHO ONE”, a large-scale play world themed around space and space travel, is taking shape outdoors near the indoor park. The park is working with Germany playground equipment supplier spielart on the project. Its centerpiece will be a space shuttle standing over twelve meters tall, complete with two boosters and a launch rocket. Inside the spacecraft structure, children will be able to explore several themed levels, including a Space Base, an engineering deck, a zero-gravity deck and a mission deck with a cockpit. Lighting and sound effects, along with digital and interactive elements inside the spacecraft, are intended to make the space mission even more tangible for children. Bridges, climbing structures, and tunnels connect the individual areas.
Inclusion also plays an important role in the development of the new play area: the park is incorporating accessible play areas at ground level so that children with different abilities can come together and play. “Our aim is not to simply build another large playground, but to create a cohesive experience where children can take on different roles, let their imaginations flourish and discover new adventures time and again through playing together,” Managing Director Julian Eichenhofer tells EAP.
The new space-themed play area is scheduled to open during the 2027 season, before the summer holidays at the latest. In North Rhine-Westphalia, these begin on 19 July. ■
