Germany: New Surf Simulator Attraction at Tropical Islands Now Open

Germany's Tropical Islands waterpark complex, which is located near Berlin and operated by Parques Reunidos, just opened its new "Pororoca" surf simulator attraction in its related "Amazonia" outdoor area, inviting both surf newcomers and professionals to catch a wave (cf. EAP News f. March 22nd, 2019). Two persons can surf on the simulator (supplied by Murphy’s Waves) at the same time and under the supervision of a lifeguard, who provides assistance and is responsible for an introductory briefing for the participants. There are four levels of difficulty to appeal to both beginners and experienced surfers. "Pororoca" (the name derives from a famous Amazon River wave) can be used by adults and kids aged eight years and older.

Wouter Dekkers, CEO of Tropical Islands, is proud of the novelty: "There are only a few facilities of this kind in Europe. We are delighted that with "Pororoca" we are able to offer our guests an opportunity to make their first experiences on a surfboard or to further develop their skills," comments Dekkers. Traffic on the surf simulator follows the rotation principle: When a surfer falls off his board, the next guest is allowed on the wave. The maximum number of participants per hour is limited. (eap)
