Germany: Maurer Rides Ends Test Rides on New “Bolt“ Cruise Ship Roller Coaster

German manufacturer Maurer Rides just ended its test rides on the new “Bolt” spike coaster, which will be installed on the “Mardi Gras” ocean liner (Carnival Cruise Line) as the first-ever rollercoaster installed on a cruise ship. In order to keep the time needed for the installation on the ship as short as possible, the company took the unusual step of installing the ride for tests on a 120 x 60 meter rented outdoor area next to its premises.

Now that the tests of the control systems have been completed and the coaster has been approved by the TÜV, the ride will be dismantled and shipped to the Meyer shipyard in Turku, Finland to be installed on board Mardi Gras. The new ocean giant is scheduled to set sail in November this year (cf. EAP 1/2020). (eap)
