Construction Start for Therme Manchester
(eap) The major wellbeing destination project in Manchester – Therme Manchester, developed under the leadership of Therme Group – is entering its next phase. With the opening now targeted for late 2028, construction work on the thermal complex has begun, following the review and approval of revised project plans last autumn (cf. EAP news of 17 Oct 2024).

The Therme is intended to become an urban wellness oasis that promotes the mental and physical health of its visitors. A wide variety of attractions are planned for all age groups and income levels. In addition to thermal baths and swimming pools, guests can look forward to an indoor water park and beach. Plans also include an educational center where schools and community groups can learn more about nature and sustainability.
An analysis by PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) forecasts that Therme Manchester will contribute over GBP 4.5 billion to the UK economy, with more than half of this amount benefiting the Greater Manchester region. The project is expected to create around 650 direct and 1,500 indirect jobs, alongside ongoing partnerships and business opportunities.
More about the innovative concept for Therme Manchester and further planned destinations of Therme Group can be found in our interview with CEO Dr. Robert Hanea, published in the July/August issue of EAP (“Just Socializing!”, EAP 4/2025). ■
