The Netherlands: New Show Equipment and Technical Dark Ride Upgrade for the Railway Museum in Utrecht

The 15-year-old “Stalen Monsters” dark ride attraction in the Railway Museum (NL: Spoorwegmuseum) in Utrecht recently received a complete overhaul. In cooperation with the dark ride specialists from Dutch company Lagotronics Projects the technical equipment of the ride was replaced by state-of-the-art show control, audio and lighting technology. In addition, the dark ride received a new storyline, new special effects and projection technology equipment (read more about the latest trends in the field of projection mapping in our current EAP issue 1/2021). Visitors to the museum can now look forward to the modernized dark ride attraction to experience the history of the railway out of a special perspective.

“In a very short time, we gave our dark ride Stalen Monsters a technical and experience upgrade. The project was a great collaboration between our own technical service and the specialists of Lagotronics Projects. The contact was pleasant and Lagotronics Projects clearly understood what was important to us: because we are a museum, we have to work in the immediate vicinity of unique collection items, and it is also important that the show elements are truthful. It was great that Lagotronics understood this very well. Both we and the visitors are very happy with the result!”, says Jan Bergen, Head of Operations at the Railway Museum.

Besides a large collection of railway-related exhibits and the “Stalen Monsters” dark ride the museum features further attractions such as a 4D simulator and a theater. (eap)
