(eap) The multi-award-winning musical adaptation of the cult film “Back to the Future” is set to celebrate its German premiere in spring 2026. It has now been announced that the Stage Operettenhaus in Hamburg will be the venue for the musical from March 2026.

The play is based on the classic 1985 film of the same name, in which Michael J. Fox as “Marty McFly” travels back to 1955 in a DeLorean converted into a time machine. In order to secure his return to the present, he must ensure that his parents fall in love with each other – a plan that becomes the starting point for a fast-paced time travel adventure.

The stage version stays close to the original story and includes new songs as well as well-known titles from the film such as “The Power of Love” and “Johnny B. Goode”. The musical adaptation was written by Bob Gale, the co-author of the film trilogy. Grammy award winners Alan Silvestri and Glen Ballard are responsible for the new music. The play is directed by Tony Award winner John Rando.

A highlight of the production – in addition to a DeLorean true to the original – is the interplay of lighting, stage and special effects, with which iconic scenes such as the thunderstorm ride at 140 km/h will be brought to life on stage. ■
