“Garden Pool”: Bochum to Receive New Sports and Leisure Pool
(eap) A new sports and leisure pool is planned to be built in Bochum-Höntrop (Germany) on the site of the former indoor and outdoor pool in Südpark, which has been closed for several years: the building application for the “Gartenbad” (Engl. “Garden Pool”) project by WasserWelten Bochum GmbH was recently submitted.
Plans call for a modern indoor pool comprising, among other facilities, a 25-metre pool with a total of six lanes and a three-metre diving platform, a teaching and exercise pool with a movable floor, a family area with a children’s paddling pool and relaxation zones, as well as an outdoor area with sunbathing and recreation spaces and play facilities. The name Garden Pool reflects the green surroundings of the city’s Südpark recreational area.
Krieger Architekten, Constrata and Pellikaanbau have been commissioned with the conceptual planning and structural implementation of the project and are now preparing the detailed planning for the Gartenbad. A key focus is also said to be placed on a regenerative energy concept based on the use of heat pumps and PVT modules, which generate both electricity and heat from solar energy.
Construction work is expected to start in late 2026 or early 2027. ■
