(eap) The US cruise company Royal Caribbean International has unveiled the fourth ship of its “Icon” class. The newbuild, named “Hero of the Seas”, is scheduled to set sail on its maiden voyage on August 11, 2027. The 1,196 feet (364 meter) long and 66 meter (219 feet) wide vessel is being built at the Finnish shipyard Meyer Turku. More than 5,600 guests are expected to be accommodated on board in over 2,800 staterooms; Miami is planned as the homeport, from where Caribbean itineraries will be operated.

Among the key attractions, the water park “Category 6” is once again planned, which is to be expanded with two new family raft slides – including, according to the company, the first funnel raft slide at sea. The competitive mat racing slide duo “Storm Chasers” is also to be part of the entertainment line-up. In addition, offerings such as “Crown’s Edge” – a combination of skywalk and zip line at a height of 154 feet (around 47 meters) above the ocean –, the “FlowRider” surf simulator, as well as a climbing and mini-golf facility are to be part of the onboard program. Furthermore, there will be nine pools on board – more than ever before on board the fleet’s ships. Also new is the accommodation “Ultimate Family Treehouse”, a three-story unit for up to twelve people with a private rooftop terrace and its own whirlpool.
