“Kumba” to Make Way for New Attraction at Busch Gardens Tampa Bay
(eap) After 33 years, Busch Gardens Tampa Bay is set to close its iconic “Kumba” roller coaster. The Florida theme park, operated by United Parks & Resorts, announced the decision yesterday. Coaster fans still have the chance to experience the B&M coaster one final time until 2 August.
When it opened in 1993, Kumba was Florida’s tallest, fastest and longest roller coaster. At the time, it also featured the world’s tallest vertical loop. With its seven inversions and distinctive roaring sound, from which the coaster takes its name, the ride remained a must for thrill-seekers to this day.
However, Kumba’s story is set to continue: A new attraction named “Kumba’s Revenge” is planned as part of Busch Gardens’ 100 million USD investment program. “Kumba’s Revenge is an extension of an already legendary coaster, and it will allow its spirit to live on as we enter a new era of thrills. The legend of Kumba will continue,” the park stated. ■
