(eap) Adjacent to the HolstenTherme thermal spa in Kaltenkirchen, Schleswig-Holstein, the new four-star resort hotel “The Great North” is set to open in a month. The hotel building in which the Great North is housed was originally opened in 1999 and taken over by Städtische Betriebe Kaltenkirchen in the summer of 2023. It was subsequently redesigned and extensively modernized by HolstenTherme. According to HolstenTherme Managing Director Stefan Hinkeldey, the name “The Great North” is derived from the hotel’s geographical location: “The hotel is located in the north of Germany, in the north of Hamburg, north of the HolsteTherme, on Nordstraße and has great things to offer,” emphasizes Hinkeldey.

This is reflected, among other things, in the design of the 63 rooms in British style and the façade in earthy tones. The newly created “CottageGarden” with pergola complements the relaxed ambience in the outdoor area. The kitchen and restaurant have also been refurbished. The in-house restaurant “Flowerz” will offer fresh, regional cuisine in the future. Seven flexible conference rooms – from small club rooms to an event hall for up to 180 people – complete the offer.

The investment volume for the project amounts to over six million euros. The Hamburg firm CMR was responsible for construction management. geising + böker and Esch Objektkonzepte were responsible for the interior design and furnishings. A bathrobe corridor connects the hotel directly with the sauna and water worlds as well as the fitness studio of the HolstenTherme. The hotel will be operated by TGN Management, while the HolstenTherme itself will be responsible for the gastronomy. ■
