(eap) The new Main Bad Bornheim has opened in Frankfurt am Main, Germany, featuring around 900 square meters of water surface and a modern sauna and wellness area. This makes the new leisure pool around 30 percent larger than the former Panoramabad am Bornheimer Hang, which was closed in April after 55 years of operation. Designed by Stuttgart-based architects 4a Architekten, the pool offers a 25-metre sports pool with a lifting floor and diving facility, a teaching pool and an adventure area with a tube and wave slide. A separate pool for toddlers completes the offer for families. The sauna and wellness area extends over two levels, where guests seeking relaxation will find four themed saunas, a steam bath and relaxation and outdoor areas. The interior design and furnishings were implemented by ESCH-Objektkonzepte.

Special attention was also paid to sustainable construction when designing the public pool. A photovoltaic system with 450 modules has been installed on the roof, which can produce up to 150,000 kilowatt hours of electricity per year. In addition, the use of waste heat from the neighbouring ice rink will also contribute to energy efficiency.

The Lord Mayor of Frankfurt am Main, Mike Josef, who is also Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Frankfurter Bäder, was delighted with the opening of the new adventure pool at the end of May: “For the first time in more than 40 years, we are opening a new pool location in Frankfurt and I can say with conviction: it has turned out great. The Main Bad Bornheim offers around 900 square meters of water surface with a sports pool, an adventure area for children and families and a modern sauna area. I would like to thank everyone who has made this possible. The pool is now starting regular operations and, as in all Frankfurt pools, the same applies here: Children and young people up to the age of 14 have free admission.” Boris Zielinski, Managing Director of Frankfurter Bäder, added: “This new pool will be a highlight for young and old alike and will be of outstanding importance for the Bornheim district, the city of Frankfurt and the entire surrounding area.”

The new Main Bad Bornheim is a contemporary replacement for Frankfurt’s former Panoramabad, offering a balanced mix of sports, water fun and wellness facilities. ■
