(eap) Activate, the Canada-based indoor entertainment franchise, has opened its first location in the DACH region together with VRex Entertainment and Sounds Fun Entertainment. Centrally located in the Mall of Berlin in the German capital, the new venue offers a physical gaming experience across more than 10,000 square-foot (approx. 900 square-meters). In eleven different game rooms featuring more than 800 difficulty levels in total, friends, families or colleagues can challenge themselves in teams of two to five players and try to set new records.

Using RFID wristbands, individual players are tracked and their results recorded digitally. The various rooms offer physical and mental challenges that test, among other things, speed, coordination and problem-solving skills. “We built Activate to feel like a game, a workout, and a party all at once,” explained Adam Schmidt, Co-Founder and CEO of Activate. “Germany has an incredible gaming culture, and we’re excited to watch players make Activate their own.”

“Germany has a strong culture of social entertainment and Activate offers something entirely different – an experience where teams move, think, and compete together,” said Christian Ebster, Co-Founder of VRex Entertainment. “We’re excited to introduce this new form of entertainment to players across the DACH region.”

Jeremiah Sizemore of Sounds Fun Entertainment also sees potential for the concept in Germany: “From the beginning, we saw a real opportunity to bring Activate to Germany with a partner who understood both the experience and the market. Working alongside VRex to help make this launch a reality has been incredibly rewarding. They have the local expertise, energy, and ambition to build something special here, and we’re excited to see Berlin open its doors and what comes next across Germany.”

Further locations in the DACH region are set to follow shortly. Another venue is scheduled to open at Next Level Funpark in Fürth at the end of this month, followed by a location at Lili Mall in Wiesbaden in November. The company is also planning to enter the Austrian market with a location in Vienna in spring next year. Additional Activate locations are also planned across Switzerland. Worldwide, the company already operates around 80 locations. ■
