(eap) For more than 20 years, aviation enthusiasts, families, school classes and tourists have been able to take part in guided factory tours on the premises of the European aerospace company Airbus at its German site in Hamburg (Hamburg-Finkenwerder). Organised in cooperation with Globetrotter Erlebnis GmbH, the tours give participants a look behind the scenes: into the cabin furnishing, structural assembly and final assembly of Airbus aircraft. The one-millionth visitor has now been welcomed – a milestone that coincides with the first anniversary of the new “ElbAir” visitor centre, the starting and ending point of the factory tours.
The one-millionth visitor, a 15-year-old boy from Hamburg, was welcomed together with his mother by Stephan Scholz, Head of the Visitor Centre, and Matthias Hoinka from Airbus Site Management. Their factory tour began with a themed introduction in the visitor centre, which covers almost 900 square metres and features a modern exhibition with interactive stations, digital offerings and fascinating insights into the world of aircraft construction. This gives guests direct access to the history, technology and future of aircraft construction even before the start of the factory tour.
“We want to inspire people of all ages to get excited about aviation. The visitor centre creates exactly this combination of information, emotion and experience. Reaching the one-million mark confirms that this concept has been excellently received,” said Karsten Abel, Head of Events at Globetrotter Erlebnis GmbH and responsible for the factory tours.
In order to appeal to additional target groups, new offerings have been developed in recent months. These include special family tours on Sundays, which are shorter, easier to understand and particularly family-friendly. The visitor centre is open almost every day. ■
