(eap) Things are moving ahead quickly at Germany’s Belantis: Only in May, the amusement park near Leipzig opened “Idefix’ Abenteuerland” to visitors, a new themed area with four family-friendly attractions. Now, the next step on the way towards Asterix Park Germany is already following. With a symbolic groundbreaking ceremony held today, construction work officially began on the next Astérix themed area at the park. It is scheduled to open in 2027.

The family coaster is intended to specifically expand the park’s offer and enable younger children to share a ride experience with their families. The new area is being created in the current “Strand der Götter” area, which will be extensively redesigned and newly staged for this purpose.

Belantis Managing Director Filip De Witte explains: “With every new attraction, our vision for BELANTIS becomes a little more tangible. The new themed area is an important signal for the future of the site and underlines our ambition to continue offering families new adventures and high-quality experiences in the years to come.”

Saxony’s Minister of Economic Affairs Dirk Panter also emphasised the importance of the park for the region: “The Leipziger Neuseenland is becoming increasingly popular with tourists, and the city of Leipzig and its surrounding area are also growing. It is impressive to see what has emerged here in recent years in the middle of a former open-cast mining area. The Belantis amusement park, with its upcoming transformation, is a symbol of the modernity and change taking place in this region. We welcome this commitment.”

With the start of construction, Belantis is taking the next step in its long-term development strategy under Compagnie des Alpes. Together with licensor Les Éditions Albert René, the French operator group is pursuing the goal of establishing the amusement park as the first Asterix park outside France by 2030/31. ■
