Beto Carrero World: Details on New SpongeBob Coaster
(eap) Following the announcement of a new SpongeBob-themed area for Brazil’s Beto Carrero World in Penha, Santa Catarina, the first details have now been released about one of its main attractions, which is being developed in collaboration with European roller coaster manufacturer Intamin.
Accordingly, a new family coaster is planned, aiming to set new benchmarks within its segment. Plans include, among other features, a track length of 1.4 kilometers as well as a total of 18 airtime moments. In addition, a special indoor element and Intamin’s first “Fast Switch” mechanism in Latin America are planned. Also, for the first time in the region, guests will be seated side-by-side on two distinct elevation levels. The installation is also expected to feature a dual-loading station as well as five trains operating simultaneously.
“The SpongeBob-themed area is the most audacious project in our history. We’ve spent more than five years planning to ensure that families experience something absolutely astonishing. It’s not just an expansion – it’s an unprecedented immersion, executed by top tier professionals to bring the underwater world to life. We are delivering something unique, something that unites generations and firmly places Santa Catarina at the top of global entertainment,” says Alex Murad, CEO of Beto Carrero World.
Intamin also emphasizes the importance of the project: “It is a privilege to debut a roller coaster of this caliber in Latin America, setting a new benchmark for the region. We are introducing a distinguished concept to Brazil, an attraction that rivals the excellence of the world’s leading theme parks,” explains Lukas Spieldiener, Chief Commercial Officer at Intamin. He added, “Challenging the standards of its category, this high-octane coaster promises Brazilian guests a breathtaking new level of excitement.”
The opening of the new roller coaster is scheduled for 2028. ■
