Cirque du Soleil and Cosm Expand Partnership
(eap) The Cirque du Soleil Entertainment Group and the US-based company Cosm, which specialises in immersive (screen-based) technologies for the experience and entertainment industry, have announced the expansion of their partnership. As part of the collaboration, the long-running Cirque du Soleil production “Mystère” will in future also be presented at Cosm’s so-called “Shared Reality Venues” in Los Angeles and Dallas. These are large-scale spaces equipped with high-resolution LED domes and screens for the transmission of sporting events, concerts and shows, and are intended to give audiences the feeling of taking part in the respective event first-hand.
Following the successful transmission of the Cirque du Soleil show “O” at both locations, Mystère will be the next production from the brand to be shown in the Shared Reality format from February. The production premiered on Christmas Day 1993 as Cirque du Soleil’s first resident show and has been performed for more than 30 years at the Treasure Island Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. “Following the success of ‘O’ in Shared Reality, we’re thrilled to expand our partnership with Cirque du Soleil with the addition of Mystère, delivering yet another captivating performance for fans to experience at Cosm,” says Peter Murphy, Senior Vice President of Content and Media at Cosm. “Together, we’re setting a new precedent for performance storytelling, and we look forward to transporting fans into the transcendent world of Mystère in a completely new way, immersing them in its exploration of past, present, and future.”
Cirque du Soleil is enthusiastic about the continued collaboration: “As pioneers in live entertainment, Cirque du Soleil has always sought out partners that push the boundaries of creativity,” explains Marie-Josée Adam, Senior Vice President, Global Development at Cirque du Soleil Entertainment Group. “This collaboration with Cosm allows us to deliver the awe and wonder of our shows in entirely new ways. Mystère is a perfect fit, inspiring audiences and maintaining a loyal following for over 30 years.”
In addition to the two Shared Reality Venues in Los Angeles and Dallas, further Cosm venues of this kind are already in the planning or construction phase – such attractions are scheduled to open in Atlanta and Detroit this year. ■
