Disney & Miral Announce Plans for Disney Theme Park Resort on Yas Island, Abu Dhabi
(eap) The Walt Disney Company and UAE-based developer Miral announced today plans to build a new Disney theme park resort in Abu Dhabi. The destination, to be located on Yas Island – already home to several major leisure and entertainment attractions – will become Disney’s seventh theme park resort worldwide, combining the company’s iconic storytelling with the cultural and architectural character of the United Arab Emirates.
The new waterfront resort will be fully developed and operated by Miral, while Disney and its renowned Imagineering team will lead the creative design and provide operational input. In addition to the theme park, the resort will include themed accommodations, dining and retail experiences, all designed to reflect both Disney’s storytelling legacy and Abu Dhabi’s cultural identity.
“What we are creating with Disney in Abu Dhabi is a whole new world of imagination – an experience that will inspire generations across the region and world […],” said Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak, Chairman of Miral. Disney CEO Bob Iger described the upcoming destination as “authentically Disney and distinctly Emirati,” blending cutting-edge technology and waterfront architecture into an immersive experience. Josh D’Amaro, Chairman of Disney Experiences, called the Abu Dhabi resort Disney’s most interactive and technologically advanced destination to date, with the goal of reaching new audiences across the Middle East, India, Asia and Europe.
“Bringing a Disney theme park resort to Yas Island marks a historic milestone in our journey to further advance the island’s position as a global destination for exceptional entertainment and leisure,” added Mohamed Abdalla Al Zaabi, Group CEO of Miral. “Together, we are creating a place of boundless innovation, where the vision of our leadership continues to inspire the world.” The development of unique experiences is also expected to support sustained economic growth in Abu Dhabi and beyond.
No opening date has been announced yet. Further details are expected to follow as the project progresses. ■
