(eap) As part of its 50th anniversary celebrations, Europa-Park is launching a long-term charity project designed to give families with a child suffering from cancer a free break after surviving treatment. The “Kinderhaus Kleine Helden” (Little Heroes Children’s House) is being built in the Silver Lake City western theme world (see EAP news 28 May 2025 for more details) – a facility with an educational-therapeutic concept that was developed together with experts in pediatric oncology (see EAP news 26 Nov 2025).

The groundbreaking ceremony for the project, which will be integrated into the Riverside Western Lodge, took place yesterday. Europa-Park owner Roland Mack described the children’s house as a central project of the anniversary year: “Our aim is to give these families a week full of joy, lightness and solidarity – and thus give them back a piece of normality after a difficult time.”

Five barrier-free apartments are planned, each offering space for four people. During a stay from Monday to Friday, the families will be able to use the attractions at Europa-Park, the Rulantica water world and excursions in the region free of charge. Day trips to Freiburg or Strasbourg are also part of the leisure program, which is accompanied by professionally trained volunteers – former employees of the park – who are trained in cooperation with the German Children’s Cancer Foundation and the Syltklinik, a renowned rehabilitation facility for pediatric oncology aftercare. The facility is designed as a permanent offer and is expected to benefit more than 100 families every year. The project is being realized in cooperation with the RTL – Wir helfen Kindern e.V. foundation, supported by project patron DJ BoBo and Miriam Mack, who is involved as an ambassador.

The trade association, in which all German manufacturers of roller coasters, attractions, leisure, play and amusement facilities and their suppliers are organized, has represented the companies for 38 years through national and international united appearance and action in the enforcement of their high demands on technology, safety and quality standards in the leisure industry. At their last general meeting, the entrepreneurs very quickly agreed to support the fantastic Little Heroes project initiated by Europa-Park. The donation cheque was handed over by VDV President Wieland Schwarzkopf at yesterday’s groundbreaking ceremony. The opening of the children’s home, which will benefit over 100 families a year, is planned for spring 2026.

Europa-Park has set up a donation account for anyone who would also like to donate to this project. ■
