(eap) At the end of August, Hesse’s Minister of Sports, Diana Stolz, handed over a funding notice of one million euros from the state program “SWIMplus” to the mayor of the city of Obertshausen, Manuel Friedrich. This gives the green light to the expansion of the monte mare Obertshausen leisure pool with a spacious outdoor area. A total of around 5.5 million euros will be invested in the project.
“With the funding, the State of Hesse is making an important contribution so that the citizens of Obertshausen will once again have an attractive option for bathing and swimming outdoors during the summer months,” said Minister of Sports Diana Stolz at the handover. “All those responsible are pleased about the generous financial contribution. It relieves our budget and ensures that funds become available for additional measures that will further enhance the quality of our leisure pool,” added Thomas Mechthold, Managing Director of Waldbad GmbH.
Mayor Manuel Friedrich emphasized: “The expansion of the leisure pool is a great gain for Obertshausen and strengthens our city as a livable place of residence. The funding through the SWIMplus program of the State of Hesse is a blessing for our location.” First City Councilor Michael Möser also pointed out: “With the new outdoor area, the leisure pool will become even more attractive for visitors of all ages. Guests will come not only from Obertshausen but from the entire region.”
Planned is a multifunctional 50-meter pool, divided into a leisure and family area, an area for aqua fitness, and two lanes for sportive swimming. In addition, there will be an extra wide slide, a children’s area with a water playground, as well as a gastronomic offer with beach atmosphere. “Swimming is one of the healthiest sports – and we want to make it accessible to as many people as possible,” highlighted monte mare Managing Director Patrick Doll. “A good swimming offer on site not only ensures that children become safe in the water and that schools and clubs can train reliably – families can also spend time moving together.”
The planning implementation is being carried out by Sven Drewlo (soluto plan): “Our goal is a facility that convinces functionally, delights aesthetically, and visibly enhances the overall offer of monte mare.” The opening of the new outdoor area is planned for 2027. ■
