(eap) After the opening of the combined pool Sesekebad Kamen in May of this year, the Häupenbad Bergkamen has now also started operations as an experience-oriented year-round pool. Together with the Saunabad Bönen, the facilities provide water sport and fun in the Eastern region of Germany’s Ruhr area.

On Saturday, August 23, the first visitors were able to swim their lanes in the new public pool, after the facility had been officially opened the day before following about two and a half years of construction. “The Häupenbad is a place for action, sports, fun, relaxation for the whole family. All those involved – architect, site manager and the entire pool team – worked hard for this major project. We are very proud of this pool and are pleased that the customers can now enjoy it,” explains GSW Managing Director Jochen Baudrexl, the municipal operators of the public pool.

In total, about 40 trades were involved in the construction. The office of Krieger Architekten was responsible for architecture and design. “The greatest architectural challenge in this project was to unite the many different functions in a modern building,” says Lukas Plaswich, architect at Krieger Architekten. Accordingly, the concept provides for different areas for sportive swimming, family-friendly play, recreation as well as architectural design.

The equipment of the pool includes a 25-meter sports pool with six lanes, an adventure pool with current channels, massage jets, bubble loungers, ring elements and a small children’s slide, a course pool with adjustable floor as well as a diving pool with 1- and 3-meter diving boards and a WATERCLIMBING® climbing wall. The offer is supplemented by the “Magic Twice” double racer slide from Klarer Freizeitanlagen, on which visitors can compete against each other over an 80-meter-long course thanks to a time measurement system.

A separate area was created for small children, offering a play cave with interactive projections (vertigo systems) as well as water play elements from Roigk. In the outdoor area, a playground, climbing equipment, beach volleyball courts as well as a beach bar complement the offer. Guests can relax in a textile sauna (Baum’s Holzteam) or on a sun terrace in the outdoor area. The pool’s own gastronomy provides refreshments.

Other partners for the new Häupenbad Bergkamen include entervo-access, Constrata, Bodan Schwimmbadbau, Schröder Landschaftsarchitekten and Ringbeck GmbH.

In total, around 38 million euros were invested in the new year-round pool. With its opening, Bergkamen sets a sign for the investment in modern leisure and sports infrastructure. ■
