Germany: Autostadt Wolfsburg to Build New Modern Event Location

With 40 million guests since its opening in 2000, Autostadt Wolfsburg has reached a new visitor milestone this month. Over the past 18 years, the theme and experience world has clearly exceeded its original goal of welcoming around one million visitors per year. Last year, Autostadt recorded about 2.28 million guests – the third-best result since its official opening. In addition to the presentation of the group’s different brands and the “car delivery experience” offers as a further highlight for visitors, Autostadt offers a varied programme of events and cultural events every year. This includes seasonal events in summer and winter – 455,000 guests alone came for the last “Traumhafte Winterwelt” (Eng.: Wonderful Winter Wonderland) event, which ended on 6 January. The “Movimentos” festival weeks (modern dance and culture) have also become a popular visitor magnet. In order to be able to offer a representative event location in the future in which not only large events but also vehicle presentations and corporate events can be held, on behalf of Volkswagen AG, Autostadt is currently building a new event hall called “Hafen 1” (Eng.: Harbor 1). The new venue will accommodate up to 1,400 guests in the future, laying the foundation stone for the company’s own corporate event business.

“With ‘Hafen 1’ Autostadt is building another prestigious event venue at Volkswagen’s headquarters, which is a perfect match for the modern city of Wolfsburg. At the same time, our colleagues will be given new space for conferences and other events, as was previously lacking at the plant. That’s what I call active location development,” says Bernd Osterloh, Chairman of the Volkswagen Work Council and member of the Supervisory Board of Autostadt GmbH.
