Germany: Disney Wish Leaves Construction Hall at Meyer Werft

Die Disney Wish beim Ausdocken aus der Werfthalle der Meyer Werft in Papenburg.

Last Friday, the undocking of Meyer Werft’s latest cruise ship was celebrated in Papenburg, Lower Saxony, Germany. In true Disney fashion, the “Disney Wish”, the newest cruise ship of Disney Cruise Line, left the shipyard construction hall accompanied by fanfares and fireworks to be launched into the water for the first time. “Captain Minnie Mouse” made a special appearance on the occasion, of course. Now the Disney Wish has entered into its outfitting phase. The new ship will officially set sail for the first time this summer – the maiden voyage is scheduled for 14 July from Port Canaveral, Florida. Learn more about the Disney Wish’s leisure and entertainment offerings in EAP 6/2021.

The Disney Wish is the first of three new Disney cruise ships to be built at the Meyer Werft shipyard through 2025. Each ship will be powered by liquefied natural gas and weigh about 144,000 gross tons. After the “Disney Dream” (2010) and the “Disney Fantasy” (2012), it is the third ship that Meyer Werft is building for the US company. (eap)
