Germany: Legoland Deutschland Resort to Build LEGO® NINJAGO® World

Legoland Deutschland Resort recently announced its plans to open a new "LEGO® NINJAGO® World" interactive theme area in due time for the next year’s season starting on April 1st, 2017. The Lego parks in the Danish city of Billund and in the Californian city of Carlsbad already inaugurated a similar theme area each, which has turned out to be a new visitor’s magnet (cf. our EAP cover story in issue 2/2016). Therefore, the operator group Merlin Entertainments chose to bring the popular NINJAGO® brand to Germany as well – in due time for Legoland Deutschland’s 15th anniversary to be celebrated in the upcoming year. As already confirmed officially, NINJAGO® world will also become part of the Legoland Malaysia Resort (November 2016) and the Legoland Florida Resort (spring 2017).

Covering an area of almost 7,000 square meters, "LEGO® NINJAGO® World” will feature the 4D "LEGO® NINJAGO® The Ride" dark ride attraction including Triotech’s innovative hand gesture technology. During the ride through a “Ninja temple” guests can perform their combat skills against virtual opponents in different scenes and alongside NINJAGO® heroes like Zane, Kai and Nya. Their hand movements create virtual flashes of light, fireballs, ice fountains and air shocks. Lightning and fog effects complete the 4D illusion for riders.

The new theme area represents Merlin Entertainments’ highest single investment in the German amusement park. Legoland CEO Martin Kring said: “[...] The ‘LEGO® NINJAGO® The Ride' attraction is incomparable. Families can experience the latest hand gesture technology that is unique in Germany and in this way experience a new sensation of driving pleasure, what is the perfect fit for our park’s interactive concept." More than 500,000 LEGO® bricks will be needed to build up “LEGO® NINJAGO® World”. Before visitors start their 4D battle as ninjas they can train abilities like dexterity, balance and responsiveness at different stations in the new theme area.

Furthermore, children can explore a LEGO® DUPLO® building area or be creative extending a monastery landscape. (eap)
