Germany: Renovation Works at Waikiki Spa & Adventure World Postponed

Germany’s Waikiki Thermen- & Erlebniswelt (Spa & Adventure World) in Thuringia will still remain open to bathers for the time being – the upcoming renovation works at the bathing complex, which were originally scheduled to start at the beginning of 2019, have been postponed to a later date. Detlev Lüke, who served as Chief Operating Officer at Tropical Islands from 2005 to 2011 and who took over the position as Managing Director of Stadtwerke Zeulenroda GmbH (operator of the Waikiki bathing complex) in September this year, does not see the plans for the upcoming modernization of the venue fully developed yet.

“Restructuring measures are not only about enthusing guests with new water attractions and architecture, but also about what people do not see, such as the highly complex water technology in the basement of the building. That is why we will continue further working on this project in order to have real planning security in these matters as well. Then we can also fix deadlines and consider the question if a renovation in several construction phases would make more sense to us,” explained Lüke.

The Hawaii-themed Waikiki Spa & Adventure World was opened back in 1997. As an architectural feature, the swimming pool building is equipped with a glass dome roof that can be opened to transform the bathing complex into an outdoor pool during the summer season. (eap)
