(eap) The Norsk Bremuseum (Norwegian Glacier Museum) in Fjærland is today opening a comprehensively redesigned version of its climate exhibition. At the heart of the new concept lies a new multimedia visitor experience that places the current climate crisis in the broader context of historical climate change, while delivering an emotional appeal to its audience.

© Ross The exhibition is divided into two main thematic sections: The first, titled “Changing Climate – From Past to Future”, takes visitors on a time-based journey through the formation and development of the Earth’s atmosphere, illustrating how climate conditions have shifted over millions of years. The second section focuses on the present-day consequences of climate change and outlines possible future scenarios. The experience concludes with a film sequence narrated by British natural historian and biologist Sir David Attenborough, highlighting humanity’s responsibility in shaping the planet’s future.

Elements of the original exhibition have been repurposed for the update and enhanced with modern media technology, such as large-scale projections, multi-screen installations and lighting effects. The museum’s distinctive architecture – designed by Sverre Fehn and characterised by sloping walls and organic forms – has been integrated into the new scenography. The content and design update was realised by UK-based company Sarner International, which has been working together with the museum since its inaugural exhibition some 35 years ago.

According to the museum, the goal of the latest redesign was to create an accessible and visually engaging experience that is both informative and emotionally resonant. The main exhibition part of the museum also teaches visitors about glaciology, natural geography, geology and history – all information is available in 13 languages. ■
