Harzer Hexenreich: New Observation Tower & Adventure Play World in the Harz Mountains

(eap) Last month, the foundation stone was laid for a new tourist infrastructure project in the Thuringian part of the Harz Mountains: With the “Harzer Hexenreich Rothesütte” (Harz Witch Kingdom Rothesütte), the administrative district of Nordhausen together with its own service company SGNDH and the Harzer Hexenreich GmbH wants to create an attractive new travel and excursion destination that offers a 70-meter high observation tower (“The World’s Largest Witches’ Broom”) with a surrounding adventure play world as its core offering. The theme of witches with a regional connection to the Harz Mountains is the main focus of the tourist attraction. Thus, an own story will be written and created by an author and illustrator, which tells the story of the origin of the largest witches’ broom in Rothesütte and will later also be available as a book.

An interactive, experience-oriented exhibition on the ground floor of the barrier-free tower structure will immerse guests in the world of witches and magic (exhibition design: Kocmoc Exhibitions). As further highlights, two illuminated slides (by Josef Wiegand GmbH) will be accessible to guests inside the tower, one of them with a height difference of 38 meters and a slide time of 50 seconds. The adventure play world in the outdoor area, realized by Küstlerische Holzgestaltung Bergmann, will take young guests into a magical play world. In keeping with the theme, a restaurant and an overnight accommodation offer will also be created.

Construction work on the base floor of the tower planned by worschech architects is scheduled to begin this month. The construction project is being supported with a sum of more than 6.2 million euros by the Thuringian Ministry of Economics, Science and Digital Society from funds of the joint task “Improvement of the regional economic structure” (GRW). The Harzer Hexenreich is scheduled to open in summer 2024.

Another tourism project, which will also include an observation tower with a slide and is planned to open this summer in the Lower Saxony part of the Harz, is currently under construction with the “Harzturm” in Torfhaus.
