Highest Slide in Europe is Installed at the Danube Tower

(eap) Yesterday, on October 3, 2023, a spectacular helicopter operation could be observed at the Danube Tower in Vienna. The reason for this: the individual parts of the “Danube Tower Slide” were delivered at a height of 165 meters. The slide at the Danube Tower will be Europe’s highest slide and thus an attractive and exciting new attraction for Vienna. The Danube Tower was built in 1964 as part of the Wiener internationalen Gartenschau and, with a total height of 252 meters, is still the tallest structure in Austria. Visitors to the Danube Tower will soon be able to slide from the central floor on mats through the transparent slide to the viewing level 15 meters below at a height of 150 meters. The slide was supplied by German manufacturer Wiegand Slides. Renowned object artist Carsten Höller is responsible for the project. The experience is scheduled to start into a soft opening in mid-November and can be enjoyed for at least three years.

Hermann Krammer, Managing Director of the Danube Tower about the art project: “We are very pleased that we were able to win the internationally renowned artist Carsten Höller for this extraordinary project. The requirements were not easy. On the one hand, because the Danube Tower is a listed building, and on the other hand, because the very highest standards apply in terms of construction and safety. I am therefore incredibly proud to be able to ring in the upcoming 60th anniversary of the Danube Tower with this spectacular novelty. The slide promises a unique experience for all those who have the courage to embark on this adventure at dizzying heights. This work of art will not only thrill our domestic and foreign guests, but will also change the Vienna skyline for at least the next three years.” ■
