Immersive Light and Sound Show Luminiscence Comes to Paderborn
Colorful projections combined with music and vocals showcase the architecture of the cathedral.

(eap) As the Archdiocese of Paderborn announced yesterday, the immersive light, sound and video-mapping show LUMINISCENCE will take place at Paderborn Cathedral from 6 November. The approximately 50-minute production combines 360-degree projections and lighting effects with specially arranged music, live vocals, a live organ performance and narration. Using precise 3D modelling, the projection technology will showcase the cathedral’s architecture and history, transforming the Paderborn landmark into a spectacle of light, sound and history.
The internationally presented show format has already been staged in cities including São Paulo, Paris, Barcelona, Hamburg and Münster, attracting more than two million visitors to date. Luminiscence was developed by the French company LOTCHI, a subsidiary of the international Banijay Group. The German production is being delivered by the Cologne-based media company Banijay Germany Live in collaboration with CAPE CROSS Entertainment Services.

“Paderborn Cathedral is not just any event venue. It is a living place of faith that carries within it the prayers, hopes and experiences of many generations. LUMINISCENCE can also offer people who are not naturally familiar with the Church a new way of engaging with this space. I hope that they will not only experience impressive images, but also gain a sense of why this cathedral remains so important to Paderborn and far beyond,” says Cathedral Provost Monsignor Joachim Göbel.
Interested visitors can now join a waiting list to secure discounted tickets. General ticket sales will begin next Tuesday, 22 September 2026. Tickets are available from 29 euros plus ticketing fees. Part of the proceeds will go towards the maintenance of Paderborn Cathedral. There is no minimum age for the event. Children aged four and under may attend the event free of charge when seated on an adult’s lap. ■
