The “Paläon Forschungs- und Erlebniszentrum Schöninger Speere”, the ambitious research and discovery center which has recently been under construction in Schöningen, Germany (cp. On June 24th, 2013 the region of Lower Saxony’s Minister President Stephan Weil will take the reins for the Paläon’s opening festivities. Afterwards an exciting and adventurous exhibition on the Paleolithic Age will transport visitors back into the captivating world of some 300,000 years ago and reveal just how much of our primitive ancestors is still evident in us today. In addition to this permanent exhibition, there is also a 24 hectare outdoor area to explore and discover. According to the center’s official statements, visitors can look forward to numerous surprises in the glacial period and interglacial period landscapes built to authentically model the Lower Paleolithic Age. Dr. Florian Westphal, Executive Director of paläon GmbH comments happily, “We are delighted at the prospect of welcoming 2013 vacation season visitors to the world’s most fascinating discovery center”. It has only been a year and a half since the groundbreaking ceremony for the center was held.
